We are saddened to announce that Thérèse Ménard (née Loiselle) passed away on Wednesday December 2, 2020 at the age of 86. She had been residing at Georgian Manor in Penetanguishene, Ontario for the last 2 ½ years and died peacefully after living with Alzheimer’s for over ten years. Thérèse was born in Michigan. In her teen years, her French Canadian parents decided to return to Ontario. She became a proud Canadian citizen as an adult.
Thérèse, a dear wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend is survived by her son Claude (Shelley), daughters, Gisèle (Tim) and Diane (Brian), and pre-deceased by her husband Cyril and sons, Gilles and Gilbert. She also leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Nicolette (Dane) and Jennie (Harlan), Steve (Tamara) and Gidgett (Chris), and great-grandchildren: Téah, Liliana, and Victoria.
Thérèse was known to many as a ‘grande dame’ for the volunteerism and advocacy work that she did in her community of Chelmsford, Ontario where she spent most of her adult life. With only a grade eight education, Thérèse worked in many different areas; she did bookkeeping, was a salesperson for the French-language newspaper, Le Voyageur and owned a convenience store. She was a strong, resilient, ‘spill-no- tears’ woman. Thérèse was passionate about ‘doing the right thing’ for her family, friends and the community alike. She loved children, music and dogs and had an amazing sense of humour – she liked to tease people, lighten up a tough situation and could tell a good joke. We all loved her baking, especially her ‘brioches’.
Thérèse is dearly loved, and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Cremation has taken place at the Innisvale Cemetery and Crematorium. There will be no commemorative gatherings at this time.
An extra special thank you goes out to the compassionate, caring staff and volunteers at Georgian Manor in Penetanguishene.
