Graham Walsh Patterson, 87 passed away Saturday afternoon July 13th surrounded by family.
Born in St. Catharine’s, Ontario on Oct 23, 1931 to parents Ernest and Clarice Patterson.
He joined the armed forces out of high school and might have exaggerated about his age to ensure
entrance. During his military career he served two tours stationed in Germany from 61 to 65 and then
again from 77 to 80. He loved his country and spent his career serving. He had a thirst for learning new
things and had many interests. He was a dedicated father to his 3 sons teaching them important life
skills that remain with them today. Besides spending many summers with his family camping, fishing,
curling, etc. he also loved to sing “The Banana Song”.
Graham was known for his great story telling abilities and had a wonderful sense of humor.
He retired twice; once after 38 years with the Armed Forces and again after 10 years with Quality Assurance.
He was an avid sailor and dreamt of sailing from Canada to Florida. He met Sandee and she was open to
the challenge. And so, the adventure began. They sailed south and became caretakers of a small island
(Ragged Key #3) 13 miles off the coast of Miami where they lived for 10 years. One time he had gone
to Miami to purchase propane and on the way back to the island his skiff capsized in rough water. He
managed to tie himself to the skiff and was afloat for hours before being rescued. While in Fla he and
Sandee both became US citizens though they never lost their love for their homeland. They sailed back to Canada in 2010.
He was a devoted Christian and loved reaching out to those in need to teach them about his Lord.
He is survived by his wife Sandee and her 2 children Kelly (Phil and their children Grace and
Nick) and son Scott
He is also survived by his former wife Beverly McCallum, sons Michael (Kristian and son Lee) Stephen,
(Barbara), and Mark (Carol and daughters Sarah and Heather). He was also a beloved grandfather and great grandfather.
He is predeceased by his parents Ernest and Clarice, brother Pat, sister Jean, stepson Brent and grandson Terrin.
